After the success of his previous single "Cold Hearted," Big NoNamee is back with a brand new track, due to release on the 22nd of this month!
Despite his young age, Big NoNamee is one of those artists whose artistic maturity, sound signature, and style make him stand out from the crowd. Gifted with a soulful voice, this talented Hip-Hop artist, rapper, and singer originally from Jacksonville, Florida, has all the numbers to make a difference in the international music panorama!
Today, at Planet Singer, we have the great pleasure of discovering more about him and his duo Gotta Grind Syndicate with an exclusive interview!
Big NoNamee, thanks a lot for being here with us today at Planet Singer. Your music is pretty unique. The perfect blend of R&B and Hip-Hop, genuine and honest, that goes straight to the point, captivating the listeners from start to finish! We are thrilled to know more about you and your music so, let’s start from the beginning. When did you discover your passion for music?
My brother and I have been doing music in some way since I could remember. Music has always been a part of our lives since a very early age.
Your new release will be out on the 22nd! This is exciting news! Can you tell us more about it?
We are releasing “Big Guwap” on all platforms on the 22nd. It’s a short freestyle, only about a minute, and change, but it’s high energy, a lot of cash sh+t was talked in it lol. It’s just the beginning of something big coming for my brother and me. Stay tuned; we are just getting started.
You are part of Gotta Grind Syndicate’s duo, which sees your brother Lil Coto joining you in this artistic journey. How did this collaboration start?
It started when he was born. We’ve been inseparable since day 1. That just carried over into the music as well.
Where do you find your inspiration?
We find inspiration through each other. We believe in each other more than anything. I truly believe he is meant to be a superstar, and he believes the same in me. We don’t allow each other to think anything less. When it is not flowing with me, He will write a hook; then I’ll get my juice flowing again vice versa. We are stronger together.
Your previous single, “Cold Hearted,” is such a great track. Excellent songwriting, memorable melody, and brilliant interpretation make this track a rare gem of modern Hip-Hop. Can you tell us what the story behind this song is?
Lol, I was young and thought I found a wife, and I found a ho*. Simple, she broke my lil heart at the time, and I made a hit from it. Shout out to her for contributing to my pockets (haha).
What is evident from “Cold Hearted” is also an incredible awareness and artistic maturity, both from the songwriting and the arrangement/production side. Can you reveal what your creative process is? How does your music come to life?
Coldhearted was actually one take from beginning to end, with no cuts or anything. A lot of people don’t know that. I hopped in the booth and just ran it from beginning to end. Actually, one of the few songs I wrote, usually my creative process is done by “scatting,” basically a freestyle that contains some words but mostly mumbles to develop the flow I like then when that’s found, I’ll go back and write lyrics to go with that flow and pockets, Then re-record and mix and master it. Voilá.
If you could collaborate with another artist, maybe one that influenced your music, who would you like to share a song or the stage with?
Top of my list will always be Lil Wayne. He is the reason I got into music. I found myself struggling with my sound because I had the bars but not the typical rap sound. I could always sing a little and carry notes. It wasn’t until I discovered Lil Durk around 2010 that I was like, “Oh sh*t, he is like rap-singing. I can do that” And I just love Adele, lol. I can’t pick one. Lil Wayne, Lil Durk & Adele. We will have songs sooner than later, I promise.
Are you planning to do any live gig or live stream anytime soon?
Um, it’s been brought up a few times. My brother and I plan on doing an independent tour regionally at first once Covid is better, but for now, we might expand to virtual meet and greets and Instagram lives with our supporters.
What are your plans for the future?
I love music, but I’m also an entrepreneur. I don’t know if music will be my end all be all, but I can say I will own a lot of businesses, and I’ll forever be doing something with music, whether we are making it or we are running our label with new artists.
