Hi guys, and thanks a lot for being with us today! Your latest single, “Take Me,” is such a powerful track that confirms the excellent work you also did on previous releases, such as “Walk Amongst The Dead,” and “New World.” We are thrilled to know more about your artistic journey, so let’s start from the very beginning. How did you guys meet, and when did Spring Fever come to life?

We met a little over 10 years ago, I was in a band called Odds Against Tomorrow and the other guys (Davo, Andy, and Adam) were in a band called Impending Lies. Impending Lies is still playing out! I (Matt) have been filling in for drums and bass in different bands here in Ohio, but always wanted to go back to what I was doing all those years ago in Odds Against Tomorrow. So, in January of 2022, I decided to launch Spring Fever, and fittingly our first single came out in Spring of 2022. What was meant to originally be a solo project, eventually had us getting together to work on songs and eventually play live shows!

Your new single, out last Friday, is an energetic, exciting, and captivating track. Can you tell us more about it?

“Take Me” was actually the first song I ever wrote as Spring Fever. Then with going back and forth with continuously writing new songs it kind of got pushed to the wayside. I am glad it finally got released because it’s one of my favorites. This song is about knowing that you are going to lose something, just begging to know when it will happen, so we are prepared. Very heavy song in the sense that we all know that we are going to lose a friend, family, and loved ones at some point in our lives.

Your first single marked a fundamental step in the band’s career. “Credulous” sets the stage for what you are releasing now. I also have the impression that your sound is evolving, getting more solid and focused by shaping the band’s identity and making Spring Fever stand out for originality and creativity. Do you think your sound is slowly and naturally maturing?

We are definitely evolving I think the first couple of songs I wrote were trying too much to be my old band and I eventually realized that it’s not 2013 anymore LOL I have said it time and time again, I have surrounded myself with some truly amazing people that have pushed this sound to something bigger and better than I could have ever imagined. Our producer Danny Cullman is a true wizard and an incredible musician and has an immaculate ear for great songs!

Talking about sound and creativity, can you reveal what your songwriting process is? How does your music come to life?

Most of these songs I start all on my own in the studio in my basement. I usually just start writing some riffs then throw some drums behind it and add some synth. I send it to Davo so he can add his (much better) guitar skills to the songs. Once we get a bulk of the song done that is when we send it to our producer Danny. Danny is great at somehow knowing exactly what we are trying to accomplish with each song. Then he puts it all together, we record vocals at his studio, Silver Creek Studios, he sprinkles his magic on it, and boom these songs become what they are!

Creativity is also strictly linked to inspiration. What inspires you when it comes to songwriting?

I am obviously attracted to modern metalcore and hard rock, but I try to listen to all different kinds of music, past and present. Just to name some bands I have been listening to lately: Bastille, Mumford and Sons, Styx, Neil Diamond, and Queen. You can find beauty and inspiration in all different kinds of music. What inspires me the most is to get out of my comfort zone, my comfort zone is metal. So listening to other styles inspires me to find ways to sprinkle those styles into modern metal.

Matt, the name of the band is strictly linked to you on a personal level. Can you tell us the story behind it?

Spring Fever while an odd name for a metal band does have a lot of meaning behind it. When I was 8 years old, I had a disorder causing inflammation and bleeding in the small blood vessels called Henoch-Schonlein Purpura, also known as Spring Fever. That was the original meaning behind the name, but now there is a secondary meaning. On March 20th, 2023, I welcomed my firstborn daughter into the world! March 20, 2023, was the first day of Spring.

Wow, that’s fantastic! Congratulations! I would also like to ask you, will “Take Me,” “Walk Amongst The Dead,” and “New World” be part of a new full-length album?

As of right now, no! We love all three songs, but when the full-length album comes, it will have all new tunes!

Are you planning any live shows in support of the new single?

All I am going to say is that 2024 is going to see a lot more of Spring Fever at live shows and we are all beyond excited to put these shows together for our fans.
