Apricity, thanks a lot for being here with us today at Planet Singer! We loved your first single, “All My Lies,” and your new release, “The Fear,” is simply a confirmation of your incredible potential and talent! We are thrilled to know more about you and your artistic journey so, let’s start from the beginning. How did you discover your passion for music?
Thrilled to speak again, so thank you. At a young age, I was encouraged to perform on stage and was involved in musical theatre. I also attended a Stage school in the UK. I can recall enjoying the thrill of entertaining people and just overall enjoyment of music. My family had the radio on more than the television! I used to practice in my room with a hairbrush in front of a mirror.
“The Fear” is such a great song. Can you reveal more about this single?
Thanks to Greg Critchley music for working with me on this tune. Big thanks to my Producer Thom McKay who crushes it every time musically! This was written prior to the pandemic. Lyrically it fit with what was going on in the world. We all have “The Fear” of something. This hit home with fearing the day to day and unknown of the pandemic and mentally struggling through, not knowing what would happen but still pushing forward.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Inspirationally other Artists. I like to watch and learn from others, performance-wise and vocally.
The song is supported by a brilliant comic book and an excellent music video that captivates the audience’s attention from the very first second to the last. Can you tell us more about the story behind them?
I was a fan of the walking dead. I built this story around that thought, incorporating the comic book and apocalyptic aesthetics. Cassandra Kirkwood did an amazing job with the animation in the video and bringing the comic book to life. I worked with the team at Dropoutentertainment again on the video and a group of amazing local talent.
Your songwriting is truly unique, and we are very curious to know: how do your songs come to life? Can you reveal what your creative process is?
I am truly blessed to be able to work with talented people and songwriters. I need to be able to visualize the song as a story before going forward. Music is storytelling, and I need to have it tie into that vision.
Memorable melodies, excellent songwriting, but also a strong message. Your music is not only aimed to entertain your listeners but to deliver a message as well. How important is it for you to express yourself and resonate deeply with your listeners through your music?
Just as I mentioned, it’s a story. It’s important to lead the listener into a journey, we all interpret differently, and music affects people in different ways. I want people, including myself to “feel” the song.
Are you planning any live gigs or live streams anytime soon?
My first live concert is on Sept 5 in Milton Ontario at Country Heritage park (I filmed all my lies here). I am so excited, and we have a fantastic lineup of talent for the event. Tuneinfest.com
If you could collaborate with an artist that influenced you and your music, who would you like to share a song and the stage with?
So many great artists… I’d have to say Blondie! She has this magnetic energy and can rock the house.
What are your plans for the future? A full-length album, maybe? We would love that!
I am still in the process of finishing my EP. I am only one year into this, and I m happy with what I have accomplished, especially during a pandemic. I do plan on live performances not only here in Canada, but I am aiming for Europe.
Apricity, it was such a pleasure having you with us today. We can’t wait for your future releases! Is there anything you would like to say to our readers?
Thanks again for the follow-up chat! Support music. Support local artists and businesses. Be kind to one another. Enjoy life, we only get one shot! Make it your best.
