Hello Ginga C, thank you for being with us today! Some years have passed since the release of your latest mixtape, and we are thrilled for the release of your album “Modern Day Hippie 2!” Let’s start from the beginning; when did you discover your passion for music?
My passion for music first started when I was around 5 years old, well, for as long as I can remember really, I was really into Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix growing up, with a lot of ‘The Clash’ and ‘Paul Weller’ being played around me quite frequently, because my dad also has a big passion for music, although he never went on to produce his own stuff .. yet.
Can you tell us about the creative process behind “Modern Day Hippie 2”? How does it differ from the first “Modern Day Hippie” mixtape?
So much is different, so much has changed; when I first made “Modern Day Hippie” I was around M Dot R a lot, and we were experimenting with more ‘dancehall’ type sounds, so I feel that project has more of a ‘dance’ vibe to it, whereas this project is much more chill, much more wavey, and pretty much all co-produced by myself, this is like the next chapter, a body of work I’ve been sitting on for a while, but with covid and life getting in the way, now finally feels like it’s time to give it to the people.
Your sound is known for its unique balance of catchy beats, melodic riffs, and groovy rap parts. How do you maintain this balance in your music?
I always grew up on rap, with my dad taking me to see ‘Public Enemy’ live when I was just 6 years old, so I was a rapper before anything, I was also really heavy into the whole 50 cent / g unit / d block era in 2005 – 2007 and was really inspired by the whole mixtape era etc, so I’ve been rapping since I was about 8, in a cringey American accent to start with haha, then as I got older, more musically influenced and more confident, the singing came into play, these days I find I’m much more passionate about the singing side of things and tend to focus on that more than the rap.
You’ve worked with artists like M Dot R, Sinxi, and Dirty Dapz. How have these collaborations influenced your music and growth as an artist?
I’ve known M dot since I was about 9, we met through my older cousin and linked up / found ourselves in the same social surroundings A lot over the years because we both grew up in sheerness, so us making music was a natural process, it just kinda happened, seeing his success has inspired me a great deal but also taught me a lot. Sinxi is a godsend, we met on Instagram, linked up pretty much straight away and he produced pretty much the whole album, this project wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for him, such a talented individual; his music has inspired me A LOT! Dapz I grew up watching TV back when Sky TV had the music channel ‘Channel U’ and I was about 9 years old, his song happened to be one of my favourites at the time so working with him years later pure coincidently was very inspiring indeed.

Your songwriting is raw, honest, and detailed. Among some of the gems in your discography, we can appreciate deeper tunes like the excellent “Started Out.” Can you share your approach to writing lyrics and what inspires your storytelling?
It all just comes natural really, sounds cliche, but I don’t really think about it, just depends how I feel at the time or what I’m going through, it just naturally flows.
Touring the whole of the U.K. must have been a significant experience. How has performing live influenced your music and connection with fans?
The tour was incredible, I didn’t realise people would actually come out of their way and spend money just to see little old me, that was very overwhelming and also showed me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it, as the tour was put together and funded entirely by myself where as I’d done it before but with label backing, this felt like a much bigger achievement, the fans were incredible, I hope to do it again soon.
“London To Sheerness” was a major release for you in 2023. How does it compare to “Modern Day Hippie 2” in terms of themes and musical style?
I wouldn’t say it does, London to Sheerness was just a mixtape put together, tracks of remixes, more of a taster of different lanes I can go down musically, where as Modern Day Hippie 2 is a full project all with a similar ‘trap wave’ vibe, the 2 projects are different entirely.
You signed with ‘New Level’ in 2018. How has being part of this label impacted your career and artistic development?
New Level was a real experience, an eye-opener, and a time in my life I’ll never forget, big shout out to Sarah Bibi, it was a journey and a learning curb.

Growing up in Sheerness, Kent, how has your background and hometown influenced your music?
I’d say London more than sheerness, as London is the ‘hub’ for music in England, I feel I’m quite lucky to be able to live so close and have such easy access to the city, given the amount of times I have to travel there for music related things, sheerness is a dive which I can’t wait to move away from, there is no real opportunity or inspiration here unfortunately.
Your music doesn’t compromise with trends or mainstream rules. How important is it for you to stay true to your artistic vision?
Very, I’ve never believed in the whole ‘selling your soul’ rubbish, I’ve seen many do it, it could never be me personally, you gotta stay true to who you are.
If you could collaborate with one of the artists who inspired you, who would you like to share a track with?
Wiz Khalifa, he’s been my biggest inspiration for over a decade.
What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from “Modern Day Hippie 2”?
Just enjoy it, pour up to it, smoke up to it, really give it a listen and take it in, and look out for the next chapter cos it’s coming soon and this is just the first wave, overall the message I hope you get from it is just ‘be you, and don’t give up on your dreams’ and the feeling I want you to take from it??? HAPPY OF COURSE!!! and stoned haha.
Looking ahead, what are your future plans and goals for your music career? Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you can share with us?
I never like to talk too much about the future, just know we ain’t stopping and this really is just the start, so much more to come!
