After the excellent "Duality," VividFX releases "Sustain," another impressive EP that shows the versatility and maturity of true this talent!
Being recognizable is one of the biggest challenges in the music industry, especially in electronic music. When it comes to producers, it is even more complicated, and artists like VividFX stand out thanks to their signature sound and artistic vision.
Today, we have the pleasure of discovering more about VividFX and his music with an exclusive interview!
VividFX, thanks for being with us today! Let’s start from the very beginning! How did you discover your passion for music?
The beginning for me would be the early 2000s; I would go to the CD store/record store and get new music to play on my CD Walkman at the time. My friends and I would trade CDs before IPods were a thing. I discovered I had a passion in elementary when I started writing lyrics to instrumentals and began practicing Cover songs.
Your latest release, “Sustain” EP, is an excellent example of experimentation and investigation. Can you tell us more about it?
Yes, I drew on inspiration from electronic music such as deadmau5, Skrillex, and Marshmellow. From this, I incorporated the practices taught to me early on by my Father and Mentor “Robert Starks, and the Diamondtones Danceband.” Mixing traditional elements like percussion and layering various blues chords and Melodic phrases really allowed me to bring different songwriting techniques to the production process.
Minimal yet complex, dissonances and harmonies combine to create memorable tracks such as “Pink Couch” and “Split.” Where do you find your inspiration?
“Pink Couch” was written over the course of a couple of months; starting with the drums and bass, I then began switching out melodies from projects I had started on before. After finding the right tune, I began adding top-line melodies before bringing in the percussion. A few weeks after that, I began writing the hook to see what fit best, and then pulling together the verses at the end was very comfortable after having all of these things musically fit together.
“Split” was more of an experimental type of track meant to be used as an interlude of some sort; however, the arrangement finds the Song suitable enough for it to be a structured track. I started with the melody and then built the drums before adding the bass. Playing out the percussion last allowed me to add a groove to the track, bringing in a new element adding structure and rhythm.
Can you reveal what your creative process is? How does your music come to life?
Yes, simply appreciating the history of music. Not overanalyzing but really knowing what you like is what will help you create almost anything. Music comes to life when you combine what you like and add what you are able to.
After the excellent “Duality” VividFX releases “Sustain” EP!
Another excellent release is your previous EP, “Duality,” an intriguing record that is somehow inspirationally connected to “Sustain” like a stream of thoughts or chapters of a book. Can you tell us more about this release?
Yes, Duality was the beginning for me, coming from an audio engineering / vocal production background. With Duality, I was able to bring out my musical ideas without structuring things for a vocalist or creating things that need to be arranged for “classic pop.” Being able to add experimental aspects and maintain the songwriting process for the length of the project really allowed me to prepare for what was next which was the “Sustain EP.”
Extraordinary musical skills and refined production vision create your unique sound. Do you think your style reflects and somehow anticipates what will be electronic music’s future direction?
That’s a good question, Music changes every year, as do the technology, networking, and collaborative experiences. I’m not sure if my style reflects on the direction electronic music is going; however, I do take from inspiration and use what’s accessible to me; if someone else gets inspired by me, then I am sure they will be able to make their own way as well through studying, hard work and dedication.

How important was your background as a DJ to shape your sound and artistic vision as a producer?
The experience I’ve gained as a DJ has given me a great idea of how sound selection should be implemented. This has allowed me to try new things; combined with proper songwriting technique, I have been able to produce new projects and approach engineering in a different way.
If you could collaborate with one of the artists who influenced you the most, who would you like to share a song with?
It would be fun to work with Deadmau5.
What are your plans for the future?
To work hard and learn new things.
